Klyde Warren Park is a 5.2 acre urban deck park that connects the vibrant Uptown neighborhood with the Dallas Arts District and surrounding downtown area. The Park offers 1 million annual visitors a variety of spaces, activities and events including concerts, lawn space, a dog park, restaurant, food trucks, and walking paths to enjoy throughout the year. With so many great amenities available, Klyde Warren Park needed a way to conveniently and accessibly showcase what was going on in the park.

By leveraging AWS technologies and Xamarin, Pariveda was able to reduce time to market and deliver an end-to-end mobile solution. Pariveda was able to deliver this solution to the Park as part of our pro bono services to the non-profit community through our 11 week summer internship program and leveraging the Xamarin partnership. The app serves as a marketing tool for the Park, providing park visitors the opportunity to create a unique, customizable experience based on their preferences. This includes an up-to-the-minute programming schedule, food and beverage listings and  a park amenities map. The next version will include the future ability to donate directly through the app. App users can register to receive regular updates for any of the park’s popular program categories, including fitness, music, children’s programming, and more, and can also receive push notifications when events are cancelled or rescheduled.

To build this app, Pariveda worked on several AWS services including Amazon EC2, Amazon Elastic Load Balancing, Amazon SNS, Amazon Cognito, and Amazon Mobile Analytics. The technical team opted for a SQL server (managed and hosted by AWS RDS) to maintain and support data displayed on the mobile app. The database was accessed solely through the API server, hosted on AWS as well. The park plans to use information gathered from Amazon Mobile Analytics to drive further development of features within the app. Thanks to the AWS Cloud infrastructure the amount of maintenance time needed to keep the backend operational has decreased.

Klyde Warren Park’s mission is to provide free programming and educational opportunities for the enrichment of visitors’ lives, to showcase the multitude of cultures and talents Dallas has to offer, and to be a town square where citizens may congregate and create traditions. Being able to come alongside Klyde Warren Park and align with their mission demonstrates the strength of Pariveda’s work on AWS and the way technology can impact a community.
